Meeting notes for meetings that mix languages

Verbiva detects the spoken language on its own, so a meeting that moves between Hindi and English, or Spanish and English, needs no setting before you press record. You then read the summary in the language you choose, and ask questions in the language you think in.

What happens when a meeting mixes languages?

  • Every recording starts on Auto-detect. You never pick a language up front.
  • Each part of the recording (about 30 seconds) gets its own detected language, so a meeting can move from one language to another.
  • The transcript is written in the language that was spoken, not translated.
  • If detection gets a meeting wrong, open the meeting's ⋯ menu, choose Spoken language, and set it for that one meeting. There's no account-wide language setting, so the next meeting starts on Auto-detect again.

What's still being tested?

  • Mixed-language tests so far switch languages between sentences. Switching inside one sentence, which is common in Hinglish, hasn't been tested yet.
  • In those tests, when Spanish and English alternated, an English sentence was sometimes left out of the transcript. That's being worked on; if it matters for a meeting, set the spoken language for it.

Which languages can I speak?

You can set any of these 21 spoken languages on a meeting: English, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Kurdish, Arabic, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Indonesian.

Verbiva doesn't claim "any language". So far its language tests cover nine of these: English, Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati, Chinese, Arabic, French, Portuguese and Japanese. A language that isn't on the list may still come out in the transcript, but it isn't supported.

What language is the summary in?

Your choice. New summaries are written in My language, which you set in Settings, Language (21 choices, the same list as above).

  • To read a summary in another language, pick that language from the pill above the summary.
  • Changing your setting never rewrites a summary you already have.
  • The transcript can be translated too.

Can I ask questions in a different language from the meeting?

Yes. Ask about a meeting in your own language and the answer comes back in that language, even if the meeting was in another one.

What does my teammate see if they speak another language?

When you share, you pick the points and check a preview first. A teammate you share with reads that shared copy in the language they chose. They never see the transcript or the recording.

Is the app itself in my language?

The app's menus and buttons come in 9 languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic (right to left), French, Portuguese (Brazil) and Japanese. All but English were translated by machine and are marked beta until a native speaker reviews them.

Do I pay more for languages?

No. Every plan, the free one included, gets auto-detection, summaries in your language and answers in the language you ask in. Plans differ only by how much you record.

How does it record?

Through your own phone or laptop microphone. No bot joins your call. Before every recording, Verbiva asks you to confirm that everyone knows and agreed, and saves that with the meeting.

  • In a room, put the device near the middle of the table.
  • On a call, the website hears the other people only as far as your microphone does (not at all with headphones).
  • The Mac and Windows apps, planned for launch day (8 Dec 2026), record the computer's sound (the other people on a Zoom or Teams call) along with your microphone.
